Politics: You love them or you hate them

Author's Note: I know many of you don't pay attention to this stuff or that many of you might disagree with me but please comment anyway because I love to argue. It's one of my favorite talents.

~Thanks,
Derek

Many of you may have recently heard that the health care bill passed through the House. Now it only needs to pass through the Senate and Obama gets to sign it. Firstly, Barack Obama shouldn't even be president. Look at all the campaign promises he made. Where are they now? Gone from his mind that's where. It's been over a year and what did he achieve? Well he earned the Nobel Peace Prize for absolutely nothing. People say it's for what he will do. Yeah, and I'm Godzilla. Back to the more imposing issue of health care. If this reform passes the very heavy taxes would start right away but the actual health care plan wouldn't be engaged until 2014 and even when it starts we would get insanely long waits and horrible coverage! Doesn't this sound familiar? Hello Canada! We are going to end up just like them. Might as well give me a maple leaf and a hockey stick. No offense to any Canadians out there. Even if you don't have health care the government is now forcing it on you. Either theirs or your employers, who now if they have more than thirty employees, must provide health care. Because of that, about 14 states are suing the federal government for going against the Constitution and many more are well on the way. The Constitution talks about something called state commerce. This means only the state government can mandate something like that. 37 states. Doesn't that show support for the new bill!

The other topic I wanted to discuss is gun-control. Now the government is trying to regulate how many guns are sold. How is that any of their business? They're also trying to stop gun sales completely. That goes against the Bill of Rights. I don't know which amendment it is but one of them clearly states "the right to bear arms". Recently they forced ammunition manufacturers to make the wad in shot-gun shells disintegrate after a certain period of time. Why in the world would they do that? Maybe they don't want people stock piling ammunition for when a revolt comes. I could go on but I will spare you. I will write a sequel to this though. This is all evidence of what Democrats and liberals are trying pull under the noses of hard working americans.

  1. I completely disagree with you. Many people actually believe that Canada's health care is a ton better because everybody gets health care. How could health care be forced on someone? People want their medical costs to be paid for. The people that aren't getting health care are usually the ones that have more dangerous where the injury risks are much higher than those of a CEO of financial firm. Also about the guns. Maybe the reason they want to do stuff like that is because a depressing percentage of people misuse their guns to kill animals when they aren't supposed and even kill people. And one last thing. I'm not a democrat, but to me it is obvious that Republicans are much worse than Democrats because they are always criticizing other parties just because they aren't Republican. I'm sorry but I completely disagree with you.

  2. Please give me one good reason why someone wouldn't want healthcare?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Wasn't one of Obama's main ideas he brought into the White House about healthcare? If people didn't want healthcare then why did they vote him in? I'm really more neutral on the subject, but isn't this what the people wanted? If they want to complain now, they should take into account that they brought this upon themselves.

And sure, the Right to Bear Arms is great but what some people do with them isn't. The government is simply trying to reduce the amount of gun-related violence in America.

  4. Some adrenaline junky might not want to have to pay a monthly premium everytime he got a scrape or something.

Maybe that is true Matt but now they don't want him in office now that they have seen what he has done. On the gun-control subject hopefully that is what they want but I don't think that's the only reason.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What has he done?! George W. Bush got us into this economy! All the Republicans (including you Derek) have criticized his every step every since he stepped into Office. How can someone do a good job when half the country doesn't even give him a chance?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Saying they don't want him in office now reminds me of a metaphor I heard once. It's like playing with a snake because it promised not to bite you but it does anyway. When you complain he simply responds, "I am a snake. It is in my nature to bite people." Now Obama has taken a bite and people complain.

    ReplyDelete
  7. The economy was going this way on its own. Bush did everything he could! We've given Obama plenty of chances and he's screwed them all up.

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's in his nature to screw up this country as best he can!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Derek you are being bias. George W. Bush brought him into an economy that couldn't be fixed with one month, let alone one year. Republicans have never given him a chance and Bush did not give his all. He was too busy giving pointless speeches that just shows how stupid he is.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Alrighty Derek, I am kind of suprised your so into the government and politics, so good for you! But we are only in 7th grade, and im sure even adults dont understand whats going on 100%, so before you judge what he is doing, well its kinda too late for that, but anyway know you don't really know all of his plans and stuff like that and he does not do everything wrong, so instead of whining about how is is president, think. George bush isnt!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I can eloborate on my previous comment. The snake did something you dislike, as did Obama. Now you just complain, though it was his plan to introduce a health care bill all along (or in his nature). The sad thing is you invited him into a position of extreme leadership just like how you invited the snake to play with you. You were well aware of the risks, but you want to complain now anyway. You brought this upon yourselves.
Sorry I say you a lot. You just means the American people in general not just "you".

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm thinking you are republican.? Yeah, I kind of disagree with you though becasue then you got people like me who don't really care about politics, as long as I am safe and healthy. And the gun thing sounds a little weird too becasue they should either keep the freedom rights law or the shells disinegrating but not both. Since you can't vote though, you don't really have much say unless you follow the freedom of speech act. Next time, you should re-read what you wrote because some parts confuseld me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm being bias?! Okay Obama was brought into a bad economy but he's been given a year and he's done absolutley nothing! Bush gave those speeches to rally the American people against the Taliban and show them who is the world power.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I agree with Matt. It is exactly what has happened.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well maybe if you know how to fix this mess, you should just run for president!

    ReplyDelete
  16. George Bush wasted trillions of dollars from our economy to help the Middle East. Good for him to help others but right under his nose our conomy is withering away. And Obama has been trying endlessly but the government needs to be given the oppurtunity to have this accepted. Unforunately that hasn't happened because of an overwhemling stubborness brought on by Republicans.

    ReplyDelete
  17. To Abby, Sophie, and Matt. Abby first. How was that confusing? Now Sophie. I know enough to see what's happening and I also realize that Bush isn't president but he at least would be doing something. To Matt, the people invited him because we didn't know what he was going to do. He's like a wild card.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ok Derek. No kid at our age could comprehend the thoughts going through the President's mind right now so you do not know enough to make such a rash and strong-worded post about our own government. Also, Bush did NOTHING for our economy besides throwing it down the drain. All Obama has been able to do is try to not let Bush's mistakes take down our country.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I say we all give Obama a chance. He's only served 1/4 (possibly 1/8) of his term. So far, the economy hasn't drastically improved or worsened, so we should just wait his term out, wether you support him or not.

    ReplyDelete
  20. How do you know how much I know? Isn't that only possible for me? Who are you to decide what is rash and what isn't! Bush at least tried to do something while Obama's just spending more money.

I agree Matt, but 1/4 is still quite a bit and I think it's one of those glass half full or glass half empty type of things. Actually the economy has been getting better now that the government isn't messing with it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Abby the can't take away the right to bear arms. It's unconstitutional. If they start breaking the amendments everyone is going to think that it's ok to go against the Constitution.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I am just saying that you need to find out more information about this subject. You pulled up like two facts to make a criticizing statement. Also, the only way to do something is to spend money because you can't click your heels three times and the economy will be perfect. Lastly, the economy is actually getting worse that Obama isn't doing anything and you can see evidence of this because gas prices are rising like they did when Bush was in Office.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I had plenty of facts in my piece if you paid attention. If you're in major debt the last thing you would do is go out and spend more money. The economy is getting better. The DOW is just above 10,000 points right now. How does Bush have any control over how much has costs?

    ReplyDelete
  24. When Bush was in Office gas was nearly $4.00 per gallon. It is nearly impossible for any president to keep that problem off the map when they get left with that kind of problem.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Really? You have just been complaining that Obama hasn't been able to do anything about our economy, and now your asking what could of Bush done. You're totally contradicting yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  26. What could Obama do about the economy?! Obama actually helped lower the gas prices but George Bush's mistakes have resurfaced. You can't criticize Obama about things that Bush does and say the when Bush does those things it's fine.

    ReplyDelete
  27. He could leave it alone! Without him we would be back to normal already! Obama didn't lower the gas prices, they just found a huge oil reserve in North Dakota and gas prices plumeted. Bush didn't do everything perfect but he did a heck of a lot better than what Obama is doing.

    ReplyDelete
  28. If Obama just left the economy be we would be having another depression. When the election was happening the main thing was how could Obama/McCain fix this economic CRISIS. Now the main thing that is the problem now is that Bush's health care plans, that are unfortunatley in effect right now, aren't covering 15.333% of people! Just so you know that is 46 million people. This all because George W. Bush has let health care costs become so large that people that don't have well-paying jobs can't pay for it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. He's been leaving it alone and it's going back up! Crisis averted. Bush didn't make those health care plans, they've been in effect for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  30. These healthcare plans have been in effect since this country was founded. It has always been a good system and now the Democrats want to throw it away and spend all of our money on a shabby healthcare system that we don't need or want.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why would the government regulate arms control? Does the Bill of Rights mean anything to those old guys in the Senate? Or is it just an old, fancy piece of paper with some suggestions? I think their eyes are wearing out because it clearly states that we can own fire-arms. Not in public, but maybe under your bed for self-defence.

And that's another thing. You can go to jail for self-defence! "Oh, a guy just tried to kill me and then I killed him. Oops, now I'm going to jail for trying to keep myself alive. At this rate, this country is gonna go capitalist.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Health care was not good when Bush was the president! Another one of the main things during the election was what would the presidents do to help fix the health care.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Most Americans would say say that we need a health care plan. Unlike Canada, most of us don't have health insurance. When injury strikes, you are left to pay for the bill in any ways possible. Now, with health insurance, someone else picks up the tab.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It was fine! Now everyone is spazzing out. What was wrong with healthcare.

Thank you Justin and agree abouth the senators but I think we're heading more towards socialism.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Mr. Hassman was taking about gun control when I told him about your blog, Derek. He said the bill won't pass becuase it can't. It's unconstitutional.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Derek: You can't blame everything on Obama, not everything his fault just because he is a democrat. If he was a republican, would you hate him then? Plus, BE NICE!!!! Also, it is partly Bush's fault, he did get us into this. If people actually supported Obama, maybe he could do something to help us.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I haven't read all the things Derek and Ryan have said, but it's safe to who is democratic and who's republican. George Washington didn't make this country because he was bored. He did it because he thought that future generations would run the country wisely. He wrote these laws and rights so eople could live freely in the US. Not be ruled by an oppressive bunch of old guys! It's like some Senators are being payed by China to turn the US into something it wasn't supposed to be.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Over 80% of Americans have healthcare! You are really paying for your own healthcare and everyone elses so it's worse for us if it passes.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hey Matt, I think it's a little late to say it won't pass. Obama's signing it today. Also Derek, I do agree with Ryan, but why would anyone NOT want healthcare? The average person usually wants to be healed and not lose $.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ok Justin. People aren't leaving the guns beneath their bed for just self defence. Everyday innocent people are getting shot just because the murderer legally had access to a gun and had a bad day so he takes away somebody's life. Is that ok just because the Constitution gave them the ability to shoot the victim? Yet, I do agree with you that it should be ok to do self defence as long as you can prove that that was your objective. But also hasn't that law been in effect for many years?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Exactly what I was thinking Justin. They only care about themselves.

Kelsey I'm not blaming everything on him just a lot of stuff. I would still dislike him even if he was republican.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah. Many problems are crossing over the border into the US. I'm not being racist or anti-Hispanic, but they are bringing ovr more guns, drugs, people and they are taking all their problems with them. I think we should bring in the Marines to deal with Mexico's issue with border security. They aren't even guarding they're own border, yet they say they will.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 80%? That means 20% doesn't have health care! We have 300,000,000 people in our country! That means 20% is an incredibly large amount of people. And Justin I'm actually neither democratic or republic I just think that the Republicans are being naive.

    ReplyDelete
  44. As a response to Ryan's, I think you can own a gun, but it can't leave your house unless your going hunting or your returning it. Yes, I know that innocent people are getting shot, but you can't overcome evil without loss and sacrifice. We will crack down on the drug cartels because it is usually them who are doing these things.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Exactly the Marines should build a wall or something to keep them out. Ryan, if you have a criminal record, even if your God you couldn't buy a gun.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Derek, building a wall would just cost more money. I thought you opposed spending money.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with Matt, he has a point. Ryan also has a point, republicans are jsut disagreeing with Obama because he isn't republican. They don't care if what he does helps, you only care about the party people are from. This could be considered racism in a minor way.

    ReplyDelete
  49. And people without criminal records still shoot people. A lifetime in prison still can't bring a person back to life.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Come to think of it, naive is a bad word when it comes to Congress. All those old farts, you'd think, would have learned their leason years ago, but they didn't. It may not be safe to say it, but I believe that there are a few in our government who are corrupt. It's easy to see that China is. Power does horrible things to people.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Democrats would tax us all till we could't afford to give those 20% healthcare let alone our own. I bet half of that 20% are just the people too lazy to work.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Marines shouldn't just build a wall, they should guard it. What good are they doing in Afghanistan? Are they illegally crossing our border? Are they bringing drugs, guns, and excess amounts of people into our nation? No! They are wasting their time over there and we're getting overrun by the amount of narcotics and guns Mexico is smuggling across our border.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We dislike Democrats because they're ruining this great country! I realize, Ryan, but what else could we do?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Again Derek, quite being racist about the party. It doesn't matter what party you are from, we are all people in the U.S. who are struggling to keep the government right, and keep our rights. Start thinking of Obama as a person who is struggling so many thing (is under a lot of pressure), and stop reffering to him as a democrat.

    ReplyDelete
  55. That would work. The last thing we need on our minds is the problem of drugs and violence radiating from Mexico. Matt we should just put Marines there instead to guard it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That 20% has to be the people on the streets running the dark side of our economy. The drug trade. If they get shot, I'd leave'm there. I know that sounds a little dark, but if they're not going to help our country, only make it worse, then why should we help them?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Derek a lot of the greatest presidents have been democrats and you know them as a person, a great person at that, but now you just call him a democrat and you blame everything on him. I'm sorry but Republicans got us into this mess.

    ReplyDelete
  58. How am I being racist? The government is already wrong so what else can we do?

    ReplyDelete
  59. That 20% of people are the people getting laid off because of this economy Bush gave Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  60. People who live by the border probably wouldn't want Marines in their backyard. It could also raise tension between Mexico and America if we arm our border. Mexico might think we are trying to attack them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wait, is nobody listening to me? honestly, I could care less about guns, although they would help against the drugs, but we have so many problems here in America, that I don't think we have a right to be out there telling other countires what to do. honestly, we're the ones who need help!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. More than half of those people are just lazy slobs who don't want to work.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The Marines could use their surveilence skills and help the US on her own borders. We take more damage from Mexican illegal immigrants than we do from terrorists. I know there was 9/11, but that was almost 10 years ago. We can rebuild a tower, but it would help us more to stop more bad things from happening than rebuild a tower.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Have you been paying attention at all, Kelsey? We are talking about our country. Matt, I know they wouldn't like it but hopefuly they would understand that it's a matter of national security.

    ReplyDelete
  65. The Mexicans share their share of problems with us and they should be alright with our Marines near the border. They know that we wouldn't attack them. US and Mexico are good friends, but when it comes to the border issue, they're allies.

    ReplyDelete
  66. That's true, Justin, but it would cost a lot for the Marines and their equipment.

    ReplyDelete
  67. The drug cartels wouldn't enjoy the Marines though, an dthey aren't in agreement with us. Things could turn ugly at the border if we brought in the Marines.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm still not sure that they'd be thrilled but we could work it out with them.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I agree with Justin. Derek you are wrong. It is not POSSIBLE to live without a salary unless your parents are filthy rich. And I will tell that there aren't that many of rich people in our country. Also Kelsey, I know where you are coming from but the United States actually has one of the better economies in the world, because a lot of countries like Spain and Germany who used to have great economies are now in the dumps.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well, we're spending a few billion upkeeping them over there. It would be cheaper to upkeep them over here. Plus, THEN they could say that they are serving their country. USMC, you are doing bupkes to help your country in the Middle East. Let them deal with their own problems. Another reason we got mixed up over there, is because Israel called for help and we responded. We only responded because there are some Jewish people in our government.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yes it is. Have you ever heard of soup kitchens and food stamps? The government gives out pretty much everything for free.

Matt, I would rather have some violence on the border rather than have this continue.

    ReplyDelete
  72. The drug cartels aren't going to lay down and give up just because military came. I will bet any money that they won't just walk up to the Marines and say
"Good day fellows. We see you brought people to stop us for trafficking drugs. We have spent our lives doing this, but you guys don't want us here so we will give you all of our stuff and just stop."
NOT EVEN IN OUR WILDEST DREAMS!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I disagree with Ryan. Germany is a booming economy because they make some of the worlds greatest cars and their engineering skill are beyond question. Why do you think they were so good at fighting in WWII? They're equipment was undoubtely the best at the time.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Derek, most families would rather earn some money than have to get food stamps. Anyway, you can only get food stamps if you qualify. Becoming poor just to get food doesn't sound like a solution to me.

    ReplyDelete
  75. That and Israel is one of our most valuable allies. I think we should keep some troops in the Middle East otherwise we're going to have terrorist attacks left and right.

    ReplyDelete
  76. All we need to do is ask Mexico if we can retaliate to any hostile forces on the border. I don't think they will mind losing a few of their bad people for the greater good.

    ReplyDelete
  77. We can increase security here. I'd rather have a pain in the butt than die. Dying is not fun, last I checked.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Actually Germany's economy has been deteriorating lately.

    ReplyDelete
  79. To some people it is the perfect solution but I, like you, don't find it appealing at all. I realize that the cartels aren't going to just give up but after a couple gunfights they'll realize it's not worth the effort.

Justin don't get into how great you think Germany is. They have a decent economy right now compared to the rest of the world but let's focus on the topic at hand.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I also think that should put some troops at the Mexico/US border but still leave some in the Middle East.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Derek the cartels are heavy duty. The Government has actually decided that the Cartels are too dangerous for our best fighters in the country, the Marines. A couple of gun fights wouldn't do the trick.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why would dying be fun? I think you're right that we should just announce to Mexico's government that we are sending armed forces

    ReplyDelete
  83. Okaay. Ryan's got a point. We should keep an ally, but secure our country's personal problems first. I got it! If Israel helps our border, we'll help theirs! I know, I'm just joking. But we should seal off our borders so the only way people can get in is through the checkpoints.

    ReplyDelete
  84. No they haven't. The cartels are just a bunch of guys running around with M16s and their pants loaded with drugs. They wouldn't last two seconds against the USMC.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Justin was being facetious about the dying part. And I think that we should team up with the Mexican army. They know the country better and it would help strengthen our alliance.

    ReplyDelete
  86. We're kind of getting off topic here. Anyway, Justin they already have checkpoints but only at specific spots. Some of the border is unprotected.

    ReplyDelete
  87. You're kidding, right? The USMC has been ruled the best fighting force and could kick a few armed drugees butts! We have training and weaponry, they have a gun and that's it. If you think the cartels can beat the USMC, than you hit you're head on something hard.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Uh, we'd still need Marines to seal off the rest of the border and I said keep troops in the Middle East.

    ReplyDelete
  89. That wouldn't work the Mexican government controls their army and the goverment is really corrupt. Plus I'm not sure they have a standing army.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I'll address both of you.

First Derek. CONNECT THE DOTS. Our government is very familiar with the border problem and they want to stop it. So, if it was going to be an easy win why wouldn't they have already stopped it? And Mr. Graf told our class this so OWNED.

And now to Justin. A giant wall still would help the problems at hand. Illegal immigrants come from the Gulf of Mexico, Pacific Ocean, and from underground. A wall would help a littl bit but not enough.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Then protect the unpretected parts! A-derk-a-der! You'd have Marines, checkpoint, Marines, Marines, checkpoint, etc. Seal the border so America can stay drug-free. I think that our armed forces can handle a simple task such as that. Even if the cartels attacked in force, it would deplete them of people to make the coke. Overall, we outnumber them, we overpower them, and we out shoot them. We may lose a few men due to cartels, but have'nt we lost men in the Middle East. Send the Army over there, bring the Marines here.

    ReplyDelete
  92. They don't have the political support yet to fix it. A wall is a bad idea, I freely admit that.

    ReplyDelete
  93. That would take a ton of people though it is a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Plus, if tensions grew between Mexico and the US, we could crush them. They are smart enough not to anger us, and they want to help with the border. Two friends don't kill each other. And if they do, then they aren't friends. We are friends with Mexico and we wouldn't kill them. I know the cartels can come together and become a powerful force. But their greatest protection is the desert and the forest. They can hide and if they come out, we'll beast them. If they can't come out, then they can't make drugs. We don't have to kill them, as much as hamper their ability to bring in $.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yesh.... way to be harsh....there is reasoning behind everything you know!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. The US has over 300 million people. I think enough are pissed about the border and would gladly give their service to stay healthy and running as a country.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Justin you are thinking that we are invincible. WE AREN'T!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I know we aren't! China could beat us, but a bunch of guys with AK-47s and no training? I think we could handle that.

    ReplyDelete
  99. We are a world power! I think we should bring military presence to the border to stop the cartels and if Mexico gets any funny ideas we already have troops there.

Maggie, what are you talking about?!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Well Maggie, the world is harsh and there's a reason behind it, too. Sometimes it's greed and power, like China's leader, Hu Jintao. he's obviously corrupt. An article says he has shown his true colors.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Military presence at the border is a great idea. It would do us more good and it would help the US on it's own proprty and it's neighbors. Afghanistan attacked us once on September 11. Mexico's cartels have attacked every day and have killed thousands. They say it's a war between the cartels. Innocents killed every day in Juarez. That's not war; that's genocide.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I haven't seen that yet but I always knew he was corrupt. Almost all of China's leaders have been since the went to communism.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Very true but we still need military presence in the Middle East otherwise we could have terrorist attacks every day.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ever since WWII, China has been growing. Before WWII, they were a failing country. They were in the same state as the US was in the Depression. now, they are nuclear, powerful, and corrupt. That is a mix that can do only evil. In reality, Hitler ordered the Final Solution (holocaust) because of his personal grudge against the Jews due to the fact that his father was Jewsih and he left him and his mother during Hitler's childhood. I get that gut feeling that China may do something similar with a certain ethnicity. Without a senate or congress to stop someone, they can do whatever they want.

    ReplyDelete
  105. They are a dictatorship and the people are at the government's mercy. What you said is true and I think we should see if we can get China as an ally and help their goverment to the road to democracy.

  106. History is the greatest text/lesson-book. If there was a mistake in the past, don't do it now! Deh-deh-deh. The best way to increase knowledge is to look to the past to plan the future. That's wasn't a quote, I just made it up. Yea, me!

    ReplyDelete
  107. That's great but some people won't take that evice. Like Obama.

    ReplyDelete
  108. The problem is Derek, there leader is corrupt and since he won't want to give up his freedom for the 1.3 BILLION people he rules, he's gonna say no. China will always be stubborn when it comes to the word democracy. If you have unlimited power, will you give it up? Communism ruins people. You can have the nicest person on the planet, but give him power, and you will see first-hand whether he's nice or not. Abe Lincoln had a quote: "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think it goes deeper than that. I think that their government believes that this is the right thing to do and that they don't want to be wrong. They said that communism is superior now they just don't want it to blow up in their faces and have the world laugh at them.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Non-sequetor. Congrats, derek! You now have a 100-comment conversation on your blog! Yeah!

    ReplyDelete
  111. I see it both ways. If their people want democracy, and the leaders knew that they might become violent unless they did so, then they wouldn't be laughed at. Britain changed from an empire to a Democratic-like country. I don't know what Britain technically is.

  113. Wait, I didn't understand the first part. Britain is weird. Who knows what they are. They are some of our best allies though. I wish they were helping us in the Middle East.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I think we should convince China to at least switch over to Capitalism. People need to have some rights. You'd think the people would have moved out of China but they can't due to the fact that they are too poor and Jintao abolished moving out of the country.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Actually, Britain is helping, but not on a scale big enough for the world to know. They help here and there.

    ReplyDelete
  116. What do you mean? Just look at previous posts.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I dont feel like reading that much and we are still on China with Graf.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Only because their part of NATO and have to respond. They only have a couple hundred soldiers there. Chinese people can't move out of the country? That is true dictatorship.

    ReplyDelete
  119. What did you expect? He knows people hate him but if he allows them to leave the country, China's population would severly decrease. Would you want people to do that if you were in Jintao's position?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Well I don't know how the guy thinks so it's kind of hard and also I don't know a lot about China's politics.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Well, there problably isn't much to them. Hu Jintao decides what he wants, tells his people, and then it happens. Life must suck over there. You can get shot or have your property taken away in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete
  122. That must stink. I think it's a little more complicated than that though. I mean look at our politics, they seem simple but they are actually very complex.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Yeah, I know. But based on the things happening over there, either the people are with him, or there's not much standing in Hu's way when it comes to decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I don't think there is anything standing in his way.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Exactly. What do you think goes on inside that man's head?

    ReplyDelete
  126. Power hunger, greed, evil, and D all of the above.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Good chance. I think, from a sentimental point of view, that he's alone and that he's doing these things so he doesn't feel alone. Yeah, I know I've been around my mom too much.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I was going to say where the heck did that come from?! I think it's just that he is insanely corrupt.

    ReplyDelete
  129. That too. He misused his power. He may have been a really nice guy, but as you know, power does horrible things to people. Even the nicest guy in the world can become corrupt because of fame, fortune, and control.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Since Matt L says that blogging is my life, which it isn't i will start off by saying that becasue i don't have this kind of time to read all those comments, I stopped maybe 1/3 way there. Derek, about that one where I asked you a ? and you answered me with a ?, this is my reply: Why do you think people can't understand you?

    ReplyDelete
  131. That's mean. I noticed that we have gotten WWWAAAYYY off topic and maybe we should return to the healthcare and Mexico debate.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Like Abby, I didn't have the time to read all 100 some comments, so I'm confused. What is it that we are talking about now?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Okay, well I am way to lazy to read all those comments above but since you said to comment, I will but this is my opinion so do not argue! Anyway, well I think that the healthcare bill is a little ridiculous because if America has been paying any attention to Canada, they would know that most Canadian people don't like having free healthcare because believe me, it isn't that affordable when you really need it! Plus, people there don't have the access to the technology we have here even in basic medical care. Also, about guns, Derek, you have to think about this because we are human and, Derek, sometimes we don't exactly know the difference between right and wrong. Sorry but that is the truth...Victims deserve to be protected even if it means getting into other peoples business...Also I agree with Sophie when she said that we are only in the seventh grade, not the U.S. Senate so we don't exactly know everything, now do we?

    ReplyDelete
  134. The original topic was the health care bill. It's safe to say that that was a while ago. Should we change subjects to something more current?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Wait. Abby when did you ask me a question and why do you think people can't understand me?

    ReplyDelete
  136. I don't know, but after each comment, right under it will be the date and time that each comment was posted at.An oh, people can't understand you becasue you confuse them too much.

    ReplyDelete
  137. You say forcing health care upon people like it's a bad thing. Most people don't want to pay full price for their injuries or other things they may need when they go to the hospital, because it can cost a lot of money. It would help people in that way.

  140. Okay Derek first off Bush only messed up our economy! How is Obama supposed to fix all that in a year when the Republicans did years worth of damage! The health care bill is great! So many people are out of jobs so that means no employers to give them health care. Now they have to pay to get care even though they probably don't havet he money for it! How is someone out of a job going to be able to pay health care when they have a family to take care of? There is not going to be a riot anytime soon. The only people that would be rioting is complainy Republicans who didn't get there way of having their ancient president who would have croaked in 2 years of office because of the stress of trying to fix the horrible economy Bush put us in!

    ReplyDelete
  141. I agree with Delaney that the privilege of having healthcare forced upon us is quite convenient, however if the prices are an issue than others obviously don't understand the level and quality of American healthcare. Isn't the financial portion of healthcare the reason we have such good quality? Isn't this a risk we're willing to take?

    ReplyDelete
  142. I like how Collin provides the point that with many people without a job, many don't have someone to provide them with healthcare. Now, it doesn't matter if you're employed or not. you hurt yourself, it'll get fixed. Damage to one's body is inevitable. If not, than you need to get out more. You can't prevent the inevitable, but you can slow it down, or help clean up afterwards. Healthcare does that.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Wow Derek you have some opinions and apparently everyone else does too. I read all the comments and it seems that people are on two totally different sides. I personally don't know a whole lot about politics but I do agree with Derek’s comments on health care. Yea sure everyone should have health care, but the people who can't afford probably just don't want to get off their butts and go work for a living. Also I think there is a ton of negatives about Canada's health care system that will soon be ours, such as not as great quality health care and long wait times. I personally think that this health care will NOT be a success but it could.

    ReplyDelete
  144. You actually read ALL the comments? Wow. Personally, I do not think our system will come to model Canada's. Maybe something near it, but not the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Derek, starting now you should only wear short sleeve shirts as to show support for the right to bare arms. Kidding, but if all of this is happening it must make you think of what the public is doing. They are the ones who elected congress and the house. So we brought those minds into power. Should some of the blame not go onto the American people?

    ReplyDelete
  146. What people don't understand is that the economy naturaly goes up and down and then the Democrats freaked out when it started going down. Then they spent ALL of our money. Like we don't have enough debt. Yes I want everyone to have health care but more than half of those people are lazy slobs who won't get off their butt and work. I also don't think that risking our quality and quickness of our healthcare is worth it. Futhermore, why should everyone have to have healthcare? That's a personal decision.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Your piece was in a way funny. You had a lot of your voice in it and how you said you were Godzilla. How do you come up with that? You got a lot of really good points across wihtout boring me. And i agree with some of what you said but other people had points too.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I disagree with you. I'm kind of just budding into this, but oh well. I think that both health cares are decent, but atleast now everyone gets a little bit of health care. Also, Barack Obama obviously had to do something to recieve the Nobel Peace Prize, no one would give someone that award for no reason.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I don't know all that much about politics but I do agree with a lot of your points. Like I agree that Obama maybe wasn't the best choice for president, and that he didn't really earn the Nobel Peace Prize. As for the economy, Bush may have gotten us into this, but Obama's not really helping us out of it either. I also don't think that this healthcare plan is good, because it probably won't give people the help they need.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I agree, Sammy. The economy winds and unwinds and everyone freaked out but they don't realise that it will go back up on it's own. We don't need to spend billions of dollars.

    ReplyDelete
  151. I have read all of these many comments and here's what I think. Derek's right. This health care law is terrible and I don't think Obama is really strong in the decision making department. (Not sure if I said that right but idrc) And before you guys start going off about how I'm a single minded Rebulican spaz, I'm not republican. I'm an independent, or whatever it is you call the people who aren't in any particular party. I don't judge people by there party. I'm judging Obama by the decisions he's made. Think about this; with the new health care law, everyone would have to pay for everybody ELSES health care, as well as their own. I know someone pointed this out already, but what wasn't pointed out was the fact that most people who don't have health care can't afford it because of health care. In short, they ran out of money paying for stuff like healthcare. The new law makes people pay even more for this stuff than they already do with people already struggling to pay the bills. So in retrospect, this new health care law with do more harm than good and send more people into bankruptcy than right now. And there are some people who just flat out don't want health care. If I bought health care but neverhad to go to the hospital afterward in my entire life, all I've done is spend a lot of money paying for something I never used. And if I had to go to the hospital once or twice in the same amount of time, I'd rather pay in full up front, than pay a bill every month. And with the new firearms law, that is without a doubt breaking the bounds of the constitution. My dad made me read all the amendment of the constitution, and one of them clearly states, every man has a right to bear arms. Without a right to bear arms, we're no better off than the Russians were during the Russian Revolution. So some people abuse their rights. That doesn't mean that every man, woman, and child in the country is all of a sudden buy guns and have a western style shoot out. Some people have a gun in their house for protection, and some people use them to hunt. If they do let us keeep our firearms but replace regular bullets with this stuff that disentigrates after some time, that's just pouring more money down the drain. Think about it; rather than one box of bullets that you can hide in the house and it will still be there in case of an emergency, you'd have to buy a new box every so often, or be caught in an emergency with a gun that doesn't have any bullets. That's just asking for trouble, and would give people a reason to want health care. So in conclusion, Obama doesn't make the best of decisions. In fact, the only reason I think he got into office is because he's a black man. That means a lot of black people in america thought they were going to get special treatment. Some special treatment with all these new bankruptcy plans, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Also, I just realised that that was a really long comment that I just posted. I think I broke some kind of record.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Wow, Jordan. That's a really long comment and I agree with almost everything you said. The only thing a partially disagree with is that Obama didn't get in just because he's black. He also lied to every american out there.

    ReplyDelete
  154. He didn't lie to every American, but to many. I'm not an Obama fan, but I'm not for him. I don't care who's president as long as he helps the nation big time, especially in these times. What we need is another FDR. He got us out of the Great Depression, he could get us out of this one.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I'm impartial to the whole Obama thing. I mean, I suppose I'm a Democrat, since that's what my parents are, but in my opinion Obama hasn't really done anything that deserves any credit. For the last year, he's been sitting around doing nothing. It's ridiculous. I don't have the time to read all the comments, but I read some of them and basically agree with everything that implies that Obama hasn't done anything as president.

    ReplyDelete
  156. You don't have to be a democrat just because your parents are.
